A Pickle Goes to Anaheim
I recently took a trip to California with my grandson Owen. Our destination was WonderCon in Anaheim, where we spent a weekend immersed in costumes, comic culture, and a bit of sightseeing around the area.
The Pickle
Owen fully committed to the experience this year. He showed up dressed as Pickle Rick—the iconic pickle character from Rick and Morty. He took the costume seriously, and it definitely paid off, getting plenty of attention as we walked the convention floor.
Seeing him embrace the character and enjoy every moment made the trip especially memorable for me.
On the Floor
WonderCon is one of those places where people-watching becomes an event in itself. You see everything—Doctor Octopus, Freddy Fazbear, Ghostface from Scream, Arc Raiders characters, and countless other creative costumes moving through the crowds.
It’s a relaxed, energetic environment where you can just wander and appreciate the effort and imagination people put into their cosplay.
From detailed builds to simple but clever outfits, the creativity on display never stops.
Around Town
Outside the convention center, Owen and I made time to explore more of California together.
We went on a few hikes, enjoyed some great food, and spent quality time just catching up and enjoying the scenery. Those slower moments outside the busy convention floor were just as meaningful as the event itself.
Conclusion
Trips like this mean a lot to me. Work keeps things busy, so making time to travel with family is something I always prioritize when I can. Owen and I had a fantastic time, and I’m already thinking about where we might head next.
